La Dra Helen Mintz-Hittner investiga buscando reemplazar el tratamiento actual de ROP severa con laser, por bevacizumab, droga antiangiogénica de alto peso molecular , de acción más rápida y sostenida y con menos efectos adversos sobre la estructura de la retina. Se trata de un estudio preliminar , que fue en parte presentado en Hot Topics 2010.
